For our client, the Duesseldorf based company Boxine GmbH, inventors of the successful tonies® audio sytem for kids, GROUND STUDIOS’ CGI production is helping the rapid expansion of the tonies® product portfolio.
This includes CG photography for all Toniebox color variations, the Creative- Tonies, plus a 3D scanning workflow enabling to bring any new product into the 3D world as early as possible.

The figurines

Reconstructing the Tonie figurines was a challenge in itself. The figurines are about 5-8 cm tall. Some of the figurines have highly reflective gold and silver paint while others are also partially transparent. We developed a workflow and technique to 3D scan them without damaging or having to paint the surfaces. We can extract both clean, unlit texture data as well as highly detailed geometry - even on small-scale objects like these.

The box

To achieve the highest accuracy and close similarity to the original, we 3d-scanned the real box and built up a digital model based on that. Stitchings and hole patterns were either reconstructed from scan data or redone procedurally to retain the flexibility to client wishes.

The highly detailed iconic surface structure of the leather was accurately reproduced with a surface scan, utilizing different light angles to calculate a normal map.
